  • Easy DIY Personalized School Supplies

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cricut. All opinions are 100% mine.

This must be the most interesting Back to School season of our lifetime! Most of us parents are making decisions about whether or not our kids would be learning remotely or in-person and ensuring that they have everything that they need to be comfortable and safe. This is the school year; we’re labeling everything or personalizing the kids’ supplies so they could feel like they’re having the school experience if they’re at home and for the necessity of keeping it from getting mixed up with other kids stuff if they’re attending in person. We still have a few weeks before starting the new school year here in New York City, but I whipped out my Cricut Maker machine this week to make the kids some personalized school supplies.

    DIY Personalized Pencil Case

I used the Molecule design in Cricut DesignSpace and customized it by deleting the other images only, including this lab image in my project.

Then I selected to make it and used Cricut Infusible Ink transfer sheets in Rainbow Watercolor Splash.

Once my design was cut, I weeded it and then used the Cricut Easy Press to transfer the design to the pencil case. Cosmetic Bag Blanks Cosmetic Bags are perfect for pencil cases, and they come in three different sizes.

I really love how the design came out and how simple it was! It took me about 35 minutes to complete.

    DIY Tote Bag
    Library Bag

     Personalized School Supplies

As most of you know, we’re big on reading over here, and after months of quarantine, the kids have read almost every book in this house. I’ve ordered more books than I would even want to think about, so we’re happy the library is open again, also though it’s limited service available. Keeping track of library books can be a struggle for us since we have so many books, so when I saw this Library Bag in Cricut Design Space, I knew it would be perfect to transport and store our borrowed books. This was a straightforward project that took me about 40 minutes, with most of that time spent weeding (most time-consuming part of the project).

To do this project, you will need a Cricut Canvas bag, Everyday Iron-on vinyl in a color of your choice, a Cricut weeder, and a Cricut Easy Press machine.

Start by selecting the design and selecting “Make this design”.

    Then select “Mirror”.

    Next cut design and weed.

Place the design center on your bag or as designed and then use Easy Press machine to transfer design to the bag.

I hope you find personalized school supplies inspiration from this post whether your kids are returning to school in-person, remotely, or you’re homeschooling this year.

Cricut Beginner Guide: Machines, Tools and Materials You’ll Need

    This post includes affiliate links!

It’s been six months since I was introduced to the world of Cricut and I am OBSESSED! If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you probably already know that. Cricut makes crafting TOO easy, and I love the types of projects I can do in only minutes. I think everyone, especially us moms, need a Cricut machine, which is convenient, easy to use, and you can do many projects. So I put together this Cricut beginner guide with all of the machines, tools, and materials you will need.

    Cricut Machines

Of course, as a Cricut beginner, you will need to get a machine. Right, now, I own two Cricut machines, the Cricut Maker and the Cricut Joy. I love using them both for different projects.

    Cricut Maker Machine

If you’re trying to decide on one machine, I would go for the Cricut Maker, I love the Maker because you can use it for just about any project from simple vinyl cuts to engraving jewelry, cutting fabric and wood. Here is a leather clutch bag I made with the Cricut Maker machine. It’s a fantastic machine to express your creativity. ps: It’s currently on sale for $299, down from $399 a really good deal. Get it here!

    Cricut Easy Press

    cricut easypress

If you’re Cricut beginner planing to do iron-on projects like this infusible ink shirt I made here or like this one, you will need a Cricut Easy Press. ps: I have the Cricut Easy Press 2 and it’s currently on sale for $149.99 which is also a good price since it’s usually $209.99.

    Cricut Joy machine

The Cricut Joy is their newest machine; it’s great for crafting on the go as it’s little, but you can still do some great projects with it. I love it for making cars, labels, t’ shirt designs, decals, etc. It’s a tiny machine, but you can still be very creative with it, and I think it’s great as a gift for kids or to get if you don’t have space for a bigger machine. It’s also Cricut’s most affordable machine at $179, so it’s perfect for beginners.

    Cricut Infusible Ink

Cricut Infusible Ink on a Sweatshirt

Cricut Infusible Ink is hands down my favorite type of heat transfer. I like to work with using my Cricut. Cricut has so many fresh and modern designs that are inspiring, and I love how easy it is to make something that would last many years. The infusible leopard ink is my favorite, followed by the leaves and watercolor.

    Cricut Genuine Leather

    Easy Cricut Maker Clutch

Cricut’s leather is inexpensive and compatible with the Maker machine. I’ve used it so far to make a leather clutch and leather earrings. Here is a project I made with Cricut Genuine Leather

    Cricut Tools

My projects wouldn’t be complete without the Cricut tools; I use the Cricut Weeder, Scraper and Spatula Set on just about every project that I do. I’ve also been enjoying using the Cricut Joy pens for my labels. This an essential for Cricut beginners.

    Cricut Machine Mats

You will need Cricut Machine Mats unless you’re using a Cricut Joy and have you’re using the smart materials.

    Everyday Iron-On

If you plan to do some iron-on projects, I would recommend the Everyday Iron-On I’ve used this sampler packet for a few projects.

    Cricut Joy Smart Labels

The Cricut Joy Smart labels are easy to make with the Joy and don’t require a mat. I used them for this project!

    Cricut Access

Last but not least, Cricut Access gives me the opportunity to use of customize thousands of designs for my projects. I would recommend you invest in it if you plan to use your Cricut for lots of projects.

    Cricut Joy Insert Cards

I love sending cards to friends and clients and I love that I can create custom beautiful, high-quality cards with the Cricut Joy Insert Cards. I’m blown away by the beautiful materials and designs that can be customized in Cricut Design space. The cards are simple to make and love using the card mat.

I hope you find this post helpful, to see all of my Cricut projects make sure you’re following me on Instagram and TikTok.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Back in the fall, I was invited to an influencer breakfast with Cricut, where I had my first opportunity to craft with Cricut products for the first time, and I fell in love. If you’re a long-time reader, you may remember me regularly crafting a few years ago, but after having my third child, I lost my mojo. Well, the Cricut machines make crafting so easy and fun, I’m happy to get my creativity flowing again. I’m so happy to share my very first Cricut project, a Cricut Infusible Ink everyday mom sweatshirt.

    Materials

For this project, I used my Cricut Maker machine, Cricut Infusible Ink, Cricut Easy Press machine and a sweatshirt.

How to use Cricut Infusible Ink on a Sweatshirt

    Instructions

I’ll be honest; I was a bit intimidated by this project because I heard that the infusible ink was a bit harder to use. I really didn’t want to mess up this sweatshirt that I purchased on Amazon, so I’m happy it came out great and wasn’t difficult at all.

    1. I opened up Cricut Design Space on my computer and started a new project. I found a template for wide neck sweaters and then added text. I chose to add “WAKE. MOM. HUSTLE. REPEAT.” but you can customize to anything you want.

    Cricut Design Space

    2. I opened the packet of Cricut infused ink and selected the pink sheet and placed it ink facing up on the strong grip mat.

    3. I selected the option “MAKE”.

    4. I checked if the “mirrored” option was on before clicking on MAKE again.

How to use Cricut Infusible Ink on a Sweatshirt

    5. The machine then cut out the design after I clicked on the Cricut button.

    6. I used my weeding tool to take out all of the excess paper, just leaving the words. This was the most challenging and time-consuming part of the process because some of the letters were popping out, but I was careful and stuck them all back.

    7. I added one sheet of the bu

    8. I used a lint remover to get rid of any access lint on my sweatshirt so it wouldn’t ruin my design.

    cricut easypress

    9. Next, I heated up my Easypress machine to 385 degrees for 15 seconds; I actually had it on the wrong setting first. When you do this at home, be sure to check the setting for the materials you’re using on the Cricut Heat Guide

    10. I removed the heat transfer sheet carefully and voila, my beautiful design was revealed.

Honestly, the photos don’t do the vibrant, beautiful color any justice, and I’m glad I decided on the infusible ink for this sweatshirt. This is the perfect sweatshirt for a fun casual daily look. I’m excited to style it with midi skirts, jeans, and leggings.

Thank you to our friends at Disney Book Group for sponsoring this post!

It’s Pigeon’s BIRD-day, friends! He doesn’t look it, but it’s his sweet sixteenth birthday. As Pigeon super-fans it’s only natural that we join the celebrations. Pigeon has made us laugh every single time we opened one of his books over the last few years. Honestly, whenever my son is feeling down, Pigeon is my go-to character to cheer him up. He’s gone from sulking when I open The Pigeon Needs a Bath! to uncontrollable laughter. He loves to giggle at how silly Pigeon behaves in The Pigeon Has Feelings, Too!, an all-time favorite book in our home. To celebrate Pigeon’s 16th birthday and upcoming book  The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! that will be released on June 2nd, 2019 we decided to make Pigeon Feelings Puppets.  These puppets are fun for reading the books with the kids and can be used as a communication tool to encourage them to express their own feelings.

My toddler couldn’t stop giggling at the puppets and now she can’t stop flipping through the Pigeon books, another tiny fan.

  • Wonder Park Movie Inspired DIY Wall Gallery to Display Kids Art

This DIY wall gallery to display kids art is sponsored by Wonder Park. As usual, all opinions are my own.

Occasionally, I meet another mom who makes me rethink my parenting style. A mom who is so refreshing that she inspires me to take a different approach that would be beneficial for my family. This usually happens in real life, but last weekend, when I took my children to a screening of the Wonder Park movie I felt really inspired by the main character, June’s mom. Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil the film for you with details of how she inspired me but you will understand when you go to see the movie which is in theaters today BTW.  I’ll say that she encouraged June to use her imagination in a bold way and gave her the freedom to express her creativity. Anyway, I thought all week about how this would translate in our home. I decided to use that inspiration to create a Wonder Park movie inspired DIY kids art wall gallery. All three of my kids create art almost daily, and besides the fridge, we don’t have an area to display their art. I wanted this gallery to be one that’s fun where we can display kids art and rotate their art so all of their favorite pieces can be celebrated. Our first exhibit, of course, is Wonder Park movie coloring pages and abstract paintings inspired by the movie.

Here’s what you will need to create your own wall art gallery:

This wall gallery is inexpensive and simple to make. All you will need are the following:

Wooden picture frames (I bought mine at a craft store

    Wooden Clothes Pins

    Canvas

    Paint

    Instructions:

    1. Paint the wooden picture frames in color of your choice.
    2. Paint the canvas.
    3. Hang the twine on the wall hooks and then use clothespins to attach your child’s favorite art.
    4. Hang dried wooden picture frames.
    5. Add other canvas, collages or any other artwork you would like to display.
    6. Rotate the artwork often.

Our Wonder Park Movie Inspired DIY Kids Art Wall Gallery is in our entryway to our apartment but you can put yours anywhere in your home — your kids’ playroom, bedroom, kitchen etc. anywhere that makes sense for your family.

Enjoy the Wonder Park movie in theaters with your family starting March 15th! You can find coloring pages for your own art gallery, apps, games, get to know the characters and find local theaters showing Wonder Park here. Below is a synopsis of the movie and the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet.

    Wonder Park Movie

Wonder Park tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl named June comes alive. One magical day, June is running through the woods to find her way home where she discovers an old rollercoaster car and climbs inside. She suddenly finds herself in Wonderland, an amusement park she had created in her mind and put aside. All of her rides and characters are brought to life but are falling into disarray without her. Now, with the help of her fun and lovable park characters, June will have to put the wonder back in Wonderland before it is lost forever.

  • Boho Chic DIY Pom Pom Bag

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company. All opinions are mine alone. #SummerHydration #CollectiveBias

Clearly, I am obsessed with all things boho chic this summer. The artist in me is totally winning when it comes to my summer sixteen personal style and I am really happy about it. This weekend I was in the mood to create, create, create so I laid low and did just that. One of the things I made is this DIY Pom Pom bag which is just perfect for carrying all my necessities around during our family vacation next week like drinks to stay hydrated, my journal to keep memories and all of my other “mom stuff”.

DIY-PomPom BagDIY-PomPom BagEvery fashionista (do people still say that?) is rocking Pom Pom sandals and I think they’re just fabulous so I used this trend as inspiration for this completely over the top DIY Pom Pom bag. Like most of the crafts that I share on here, this bag is very easy to make. It did take some time and me running out to the craft store to get extra Pom Poms but the end result was well worth it. Here’s how to make a DIY Pom Pom bag:

    You’re going to need:

    diypompombag

    1. Assorted Pom Poms (2 bags)
    2. Canvas bag
    3. Glue gun

    Instructions:

    1. Heat up your glue gun.
    2. Pick out the colors and sizes Pom Poms you would like to use and lay them out on the bag to make sure that you like the color scheme and the layout. I chose to use the bigger pom poms at the top and bottom of the bag and alternate the smaller sizes in the middle. how-to-make-diy-pom-pom-bags
    3. Then add a small bit of hot glue to the back of each Pom Pom and stick them to the bag.
    4. Repeat this until the entire side of the bag is completed.
    5. If you want to do both sides of the bag, purchases 4 bags of pom poms instead of two.
    6. Allow glue to dry.
    7. Voila! You’re done.

[Tweet “Beat the heat. Stay hydrated and cool with this DIY Pom Pom bag for your drinks! “]

I’m happy to have this fun bag to use for all of my explorations this summer so I can have the space to carry my drinks. Staying hydrated is on the top of my wellness list for the summer and if I didn’t need further motivation, learning that dehydration causes early wrinkles and crows feet definitely encourages me to alway walk with my drinks and sip all day long.

There is a CVS store only a few blocks from my house so I like to stop there to stock up on some of my favorite cooling drinks like smartwater, Honest Tea and Gold Peak that my husband introduced me to last summer.

This week, I will be sure to head over there to stock up on drinks for our trip, especially with CVS current deal: Spend $5, get $2 in ExtraBucks rewards in-store with your CVS ExtraCare Rewards Card.

  • DIY Tutu Summer Bows

A few weeks ago, I went to a craft store and spotted the prettiest watermelon print ribbon. I grabbed a roll almost immediately for The Princess Fairy because I had a cool craft idea in mind. My little girl LOVES tutu skirts so one of my ideas was to use that as inspiration for making her new hair bows. I figured it would be a very cool twist to traditional bows and go well with her summer outfits.

So this morning, I was in the mood for crafting (been feeling that way all day) so I did a LIVE DIY tutu summer bows tutorial for my community over on Snapchat.  Since Snapchat stories only have a lifespan of 24 hours, I wanted to also share the tutorial here.

  • Boho Chic: DIY Jewelry Box

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I need some more color in my life (I can always do with more color).  I have a ton of really fun boho chic jewelry but my jewelry boxes and organizer are boring and don’t really reflect my style. So, this weekend I decided to change that and make myself a new boho chic jewelry box that really reflects my personal style. If you follow me on Snapchat (and you should! – rattlesandheels) You know that I was really excited about how this DIY came out. I love it so much that I had to share it because it’s very simple to make yet unique. This Boho Chic Jewelry Box will also make a wonderful handmade gift for your friends 🙂

    1. Unscrew all hardware from the wooden box and put them away in safe place. Your box should look like the photo below. diy-jewelrybox
    2. Measure your fabric to cover the entire surface of the top of your box and cut.
    3. Using your heated hot glue gun, stick the fabric to the top of the jewelry box. jewelrybox
    4. Paint the second half of the box with your metallic paint. The Matha Stewart All Purpose Paint that I used was perfect because it dried really quickly.
    5. Allow to dry.
    6. Using a small pin find the holds for the screws are carefully reinstall them through the fabric on the top of the jewelry box. I found that the pins were enough to punch a hole since the screws were really small and my fabric did not get damaged.DIY Jewelry Storage
    7. Do the same for the second half of the box, once the paint is completely dry.DIY Jewelry Storage
    8. Once the hardware is installed to both attach them back to each other.IMG_4976jewelryboxVoila! You’re finished.

Go ahead and store your boho chic jewelry 😉
