  • Easy Halloween DIY Ideas (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Somehow, Halloween’s become one of my very favorite holidays. It’s so much for the kids and I love having the chance to express myself creatively and encourage their creativity. Yesterday, I had a really good time making some of the first DIY’s for the season. I made sure they were very easy so you can recreate them even if you’re not a crafty person. Below, you will find the video tutorial as well as the instructions.

All of the materials that I used are really accessible but if you don’t have them at home, you can find them on Amazon.

  • Back to School Tips Video

Now that The Princess Fairy is getting older it’s only right that she plays a bigger role in the back to school preparations around here. So I thought I would be cool to get her to help me share some back to school tips. I hope you enjoy our video, I share a few tips for moms and she shares tips for kids. Oh, while you’re there subscribe to our channel.

  • NEW Family Vlog

Did you know that I have a YouTube channel? Yes, you should totally subscribe!

I started my channel one year ago and although I don’t have a lot of videos I am pretty proud of the ones that I have.  I love making beauty videos about natural hair but lately I haven’t had the time.  I am always with my children and setting up to do a beauty video with a toddler and preschooler isn’t exactly fun.  So I wanted to combine the two, my love for making videos and my kids. That’s why I have started to do family vlogs. Although, I sometimes forget to record the really cool moments, vlogging is giving me a really awesome way to capture my children’s childhood.

So I hope you enjoy this major vlog, it’s a recap of everything we did during the month of October at Rattles and Heels. The vlog include footage from the highlights of our experience at Belmont Race Track, Sesame Place, Kids Fashion Week and me trying to tire my son out at the playground.

    I hope you enjoy!

Do you vlog or  make  family movies?

  • My First Family Vlog and Style Diary

    Rattles and Heels Vlog

I haven’t shared a video in a really long time because it’s difficult to carve out the time to make one. That’s why I decided to record my first family vlog while my daughter and I were out yesterday. We attended The Elf on the Shelf event at Dylan’s Candy Bar to learn the background of the brand and more about their products (don’t worry, a post is coming really soon), danced in Union Square Park and tried out the highly raved Amorino Gelato (it’s delicious!). All fun things to do with kids in New York City.

Here’s the video and all the details of what we wore can be found below in our style diary 🙂

  • Four Year Big Chop Anniversary Reflections (VIDEO)

How I felt after big chop
Cutting all of my relaxed hair off in my bathroom in May 2010 was probably one of the bravest things that I’ve done so far in my life. I know that a lot of you are transitioning or have relaxed hair and considering doing the big chop. That’s why I wanted to share my experience in this short video.

Feel free to share your experience with the Rattles and Heels community if you’ve done the big chop. What motivated you to do it? Did you want to return to relaxing your hair? Did you embrace your natural hair right away?

  • Favorite Products For Wash and Go (Video)

Favorite Products for wash and go

It’s back ladies! My beloved wash and go. My natural hair is back to it’s default setting and looking incredible (forgive my corkiness). I’m just really feeling myself after wearing braids and braid-outs all winter. On Sunday, when I did my hair it was like that first nice day of Spring when all the girls break out their shorts and let the sun hit their pale legs.

    Wash and Go

So, with that out of the way, here’s my favorite products for wash and go:

    Pre-Poo

Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

    Deep Conditioners

    Carols Daughter Black Vanilla Smoothie

Every Strand Argan Oil Hair Mask

    Stylers

For my wash and go style, I’ll be using mainly Kinky Curly Curling Custard, Ecostyler Gel for color treated hair and Tresemme Flawless Conditioner but I plan to experiment with a few more products.

Styling with Gel: I’ve been using Ecostyler for color treated hair even before I got highlights and I really like it because the hold isn’t as strong as the brand’s other gel that I’ve tried (Olive Oil) which resulted in hard and dry curls. Although, this gel isn’t drying in my experience I plan to reintroduce it to my routine towards the end of the spring when its much warmer.

While it’s still on the colder side and the weather is transitioning I plan to stick to Kinky Curly Curling Custard which works better for me during colder weather keeping my hair moist, soft and shiny.

    Styling without Gel:

When I style my hair without gel I like to use Tresemme Naturals Conditioner as my styler.

Maintenance of Wash and Go style

One N Only Argan Oil Treatment

    Detangler

    Kinky Curly Curling Custard

    Wash and Go Favorites

What’s your spring hair routine? What are your favorite products for your wash and go?

  • The Wash and Go: A Natural Hair Tutorial

Here’s a tutorial of my favorite natural hair style, the Wash and Go.

Prior to filming this video, I washed my hair using As I am Coconut Cowash. I then deep conditioned using One and Only Argan Oil Hydrating Mask.

As you will see in the video I used Kinky Curly Knot Today as my detangler/leave-in conditioner and styled with Kinky Curly Curling Custard. Since its cold, I dried my hair using Conair Hair Dryer but I prefer the results when I air-dry.Once my hair was completely dried, I sealed in the moisture using One and Only Argan Oil.

What method do you use for your wash and go? What products do you like to use?
