Today’s Mom in Heels is Megan of Fashionista Momma. Megan is a mom of two, a health and fashion blogger, student and Image Consultant in training. Megan was wonderful enough to share her actual daily schedule with us, a useful resource especially for new moms plus tips and advice. Enjoy!
How many kids do you have and how old are they?
I have 2 girls one is almost 3 and the other is 1.
You’re currently also a student, how do you balance motherhood and school?
I just started school and I am working on finding balance in my life with everything I have going on. Right now my schedule is:
Get up before my girls and exercise
While they eat breakfast I do some work.
If they nap I will fit in a little computer time.
Then after the girls are asleep I will work for a couple hours and then my computer gets put away for the night so, I can have time with my husband.
It’s a non-stop day every day. But, I function better under stress and a busy schedule. It’s good for me.
What would be your advice to moms who are struggling to establish their style and make time to care for themselves?
Make the time, read magazines, use Pinterest, find what you like and start looking through your closet and recreating what you love. I think it is important to take care of yourself because you are setting an example for your children. They do what you do. So, how do expect your child to listen when you are telling them to get ready when you aren’t doing the same?
How would you describe your style?
Gosh that’s tough! I would say Classic. I tend to stay away from extreme trends and lean towards the more timeless pieces.
Have your style changed since you became a mother?
Huge change!! I use to be a trainer and yoga instructor by day and then spent my nights out with friends. My wardrobe consisted of workout clothes and cocktail dresses. The change from my old lifestyle to my new lifestyle is why I started The Fashionista Momma blog.
What three things every mom should invest in for instant glam?
A Little Black Dress (LBD), a good fitting pair of jeans, and good mascara. A good LBD can transition from day to night with the right accessories. Good fitting jeans are just a must. Mascara in my opinion is the one thing that will always save your face. If you don’t have time for makeup just curl your lashes, throw on some mascara and it instantly opens your eyes and brightens your face.
Besides fashion, one of your passions is health. What’s your advice for moms who are trying to become healthier?
Eat at home. If you are busy like me and out and about a lot pack snacks, bring water, and avoid eating out as much as possible. Not only does this help your health but, your finances as well. I always have a lunch pail filled with snacks for my girls and I when I leave the house. Finally fit in exercise whenever you can. Park farther away, walk when you can, take the stairs, get up before your children and do some sort of exercise.
Tell us about your blog.
Like I mentioned before I started my blog to just share my experience. Finding my sense of style as a new mom. I knew that there were plenty of other women out there who felt the same as I did. Unsure of themselves, and lacking the time to create the look they wanted. Now with my fashion posts, I have also added health, children’s fashion and reviews on great products that can help any Fashionista Momma. As I dive into Image Consulting I hope to help women find their own sense of style and find themselves.
