This week’s Mom in Heels is Nik G of Nik G Life and Style, a stylish mom of two with the most gorgeous head of hair. I really enjoyed this interview and Nik’s perspective on parenting, not raising overly entitled kids, personal evolution and taking a natural approach to style.
Please introduce yourself.
Hi! My name is Nikia, but I’m known as Nik G. of NikgLifeAndStyle.com. I just recently relocated to Kansas City, MO from Atlanta, GA less than a year ago. I am a blogger, and I started my blog after one day discovering this online community of fashion blogging. I was hooked! I’ve since changed the focus of my blog somewhat. I’m more of a “lifestyle” blogger. I cover fashion, food, family, and just…well life!
How many kids do you have and how old are they?
I am the proud mom of two little boys aged 5 and 3.
What’s the biggest parenting challenge you’ve overcome?
I always tell people that the hardest part of parenting for me has been knowing when to say “no”. As a loving parent, I find that I want to give my kids everything their little hearts desire, but I’ve had to be mindful to not create overly entitled people later on.
How do you balance your career and motherhood?
Well, at the moment, aside from blogging–motherhood (and wife-hood) ARE my career! It is a handful and so I give lots of props to women who balance motherhood plus an outside career as well.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my personal style as “stylishly eclectic”. I wear a lot of different styles (boho, classic, trendy) and put them together into one look.
Did your personal style change since you became a mother?
YES! After becoming a mom, I just didn’t do the things I use to do as much, like going out or being on the “scene”, so a lot of the things that I use to buy, I don’t have a real need for anymore. I actually buy trendy items less often now, I think, because I go out less, I shop less and that causes me to want to buy pieces that will stand the test of time (in style and quality).
What would be your advice to moms who are struggling to establish their style and make time to care for themselves?
Don’t try to force it, and don’t try to be something you’re not. Buy and wear things that you are naturally drawn to. Buy things that make you feel good because they look good on you and go from there. Also, you should feel comfortable in whatever you’re wearing, because if you aren’t it shows! Confidence is always stylish.

Don’t be afraid to evolve. Becoming a mother is a major life event. Things will change, and you will change. The less you try to fight that personal evolution that you will go through, the less stressful it will be.
