Mom in Heels: Alicia

This week’s Mom in Heels Alicia is a Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger at Chica Fashion. She’s also founder of the New Jersey Latina Bloggers. But most importantly she is a mother, wife, sister and  friend. She describers herself as a budget fashionista, “mad about “Style on a Budget” & “Affordable Fashion”.  She was awesome enough to share her struggle with weaning, and why moms shouldn’t beat themselves up about not getting dressed up daily. Enjoy!

Briefly introduce yourself.

Chica Fashion, NJ, I started my blog while on maternity leave as a creative outlet, a platform where I could share my fashion tips and outfit ideas as well as my daughter’s.

How many kids do you have and how old are they?

Two, my daughter Naliya (#MiniChicaFashion) will be 5 in January and my son, Aarlen is 17 months.

What’s the biggest parenting challenge you’ve overcome?

Getting my son to wean from nursing. He doesn’t seem to want to quit and nursing for so long has him very attached to me.

How do you balance your career and motherhood?

My kids come first. Once I meet their needs throughout the day I tend to my blog. I’m doing some type of blog work all day long. Something that could take an hour takes 3 because I have to stop to meet their needs but that’s the beauty of working from home. No boss = No stress and pressure.

How would you describe your personal style?

I want to say chic, casual and practical? I know it doesn’t fall into a niche like grunge or hipster but I dress based upon my mood that day, where I need to go and what I need to do.

Did your personal style change since you became a mother?

I believe its gotten better with age. It’s evolved to something more stylish and sophisticated.

What would be your advice to moms who are struggling to establish their style and make time to care for themselves?

Not to beat themselves up, it’s okay not to look all put together and flawless everyday. I probably get all glammed up 1-2x a week and when I do my family already know I need extra time for hair and make up.

Any tips you’ll like to share to new mothers?

Take time out for yourself whether it is doing your hair, getting a mani or working out. Also enjoy every moment with your baby they grow so fast.

How can we keep up with you?
