  • Tips to Help Kids Make Friends in Elementary School

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of popchips.

Next week is the big week! My two older kids are going back to school after a long, fun summer. My daughter is going into the 4th grade, and my son will be going into the 1st grade. They’re both really excited but somewhat nervous. Although they’ve both attended this school since they were in preschool, they still end up making new friends every year when the classes shuffle. They always know a few of the kids, but sometimes the kids they’re closest to end up in another room. That’s why it’s always been important to me to ensure that they know how to make friends in elementary school. Here are a few tips I give them.

    Welcome new kids.

I always encourage my kids to take the stress and nervousness off of themselves by thinking of others who are in a more stressful situation. If there are new kids in their class, I encourage them to welcome them and help to learn about the school, routine and help them with other kids names.

    Share with others.

Both of my kids always say sharing is caring, and it’s true. Sharing with friends is a great way to let them know that you care about them. Sometimes the kids ask for extra snacks to bring for a friend and I’m always happy to give them one. That’s why I love the popchips 6 count variety pack because I have enough to send extras for their friends when they ask. popchips is one of my go-to snacks for them because it’s GMO-free, gluten-free, and has less than 130 calories.

I’m cautious about what the kids are eating at school because I know that nutrition directly impacts their educational experience. I focus on great tasting, healthy school snacks for them like popchips. The six-count pack comes with both barbeque and sea salt flavor; the kids are obsessed with the barbeque chips which has that great smoked tangy flavor minus the greasiness of other brands.

    Discover common interests.

It’s easier to build a solid friendship with kids who have the same interests. Finding another kid who is also Spiderman fanatic or likes to decorate cupcakes can help kids to bond. I encourage my kids to take their time; sometimes, it takes a while to discover another kid has a lot in common with them. It’s no rush, and you can never have too many friends.

  • Avoid Cross-Contamination With Food Allergies|PRINTABLE

Ι remember a few years ago when my daughter was first diagnosed with food allergies and my world stopped. I wanted to protect her and ensure that she never came into contact with any of the food that she was allergic too. Although,  I love raw almonds and crunchy peanut butter I tossed my stash into a large garbage bag as soon as we got back home with the results. Then, I went ahead to notify everyone who visited our home to never bring the new enemy foods around EVER!

Making sure that she was safe was my top priority both then and now. The wonderful thing is that as she is getting older she is responsible and understands her allergies. That doesn’t mean that I am not as proactive because as smart as she is, I remind myself daily that she is only four years old.

So what does cross contamination really mean in this case? Food allergies can be triggered from very small amounts of food particles left on utensils or surfaces so it’s important to be mindful and aware of what was made in your kitchen at all time. This means that you have to be careful, mindful and organized.

Anyway, I wanted to make a printable that you can use as a guide for safely preparing foods in your home that your child is allergic to.You can download this printable and keep it on your fridge or give it to family members who babysit your child.

  • Nuts-free Halloween Snack

We are officially gearing up for Halloween at our home. This weekend, the kids and I decided to do a little bit of Halloween decorating to really set the mood. We were happy to find non-scary decorations at Walmart, these are perfect for my two kids under 5.

Once we were finished decorating, the princess fairy requested a snack. Of course, food allergies is always a concern when preparing snacks for her.

So here is a Halloween inspired snack for kids with nut allergies:

It’s super simple but the flavors together taste like a yum bomb exploding in your mouth.

    Ingredients:

All you’ll need is some candy corn and Breyer’s Blast Golden Oreos Ice Cream and candy corn. Make sure that the brand of candy corn that you select is safe (that is no traces of nuts).

It’s best to add the candy corn and ice cream in layers so it can be distributed evenly. Just a small bit of candy corn is enough  because if you add too much your snack will be too sweet.

Your end result will be yummy and indulgent. Feel free to thank me for the cheat meal 🙂

Our Halloween snacks were served in our favorite Ball mason jars and I added these cute chalkboard labels that I found at Target to jazz things up. We are going to be using these labels throughout the entire season (they’re only $1). I also found these chalkboard coasters, also $1 #TargetStylehalloween-snacksThese labels are also perfect for The Princess Fairy to practice her writing.

Apparently, they were pretty good because I was taking pictures after serving the kids and then this happened. The Little Knight couldn’t stop himself.
