Late Monday night, the Black Weblog Awards announced the 2015  winners, I already had logged off of social media for the night and was snuggled up with my new copy of Shonda Rhimes Year of Yes. It wasn’t until the next morning at around 9:30 am that I found out that we won the award for Best Parenting Blog. As I processed the exciting news, I silently said to myself “persistence, baby”.

You see, the truth is that winning an award for this blog is a big deal for me and a lesson of sorts. I consider this to be another nudge from the universe to keep going, to be persistent about sharing my parenting journey. Back in 2008, when I started my first blog, Style Rebel I lacked some important character traits that I developed during my late twenties. Most importantly,  grit and persistence (both very similar if you will). I realized when I turned 30, that  everything I tried and failed wasn’t a result of anything but my own inability to persist.  So when I started Rattles and Heels, I made a promise to myself to never give up. I remained persistent when almost no one read this blog, I remained persistent at improving my photography and making your visit to this blog an enjoyable one.

Rattles and Heels is one my current loves and genuinely enjoy sharing my life on this blog so I’m happy that I persisted. Sometimes, I get discouraged but I take the time to remind myself of why I started. I remind myself that millennial moms who look like me need a beautiful site like this because we have the same parenting concerns and fears.

It’s not all me and my persistence, though! This blog is what it is because you, my readers.  Whether you comment or silently check in daily, your presence is always appreciated. You’re my friend in my head. Some of you have been checking in on me since the beginning. You’ve been patient while I figured the whole blogging thing out and sent me encouraging messages before I even had a logo. When I shared that we were nominated for this award, you were very excited for me. Many of you emailing me and you voted. It’s humbling that you took your precious time to vote for me so THANK YOU!

Now for the award,  there is going to be a fancy award ceremony in Washington, D.C. next summer where I will receive it and I will be sure to share all about that experience.

Are you persistent?
