I can hardly believe that the school year is almost finished! The Princess Fairy finishes Pre-K in only two weeks. We are really excited to enjoy all the extra family time this summer. I want her to remember her summer before Kindergatern as EPIC. As I mentioned in this post, there are always TONS of things to do with my kids in New York City. I’m glad Macy’s is getting on board for some serious family fun with Camp Macy’s.  Camp Macy’s is going to be a fun event to create some summer memories with your favorite ones. My kids are going to LOVE this event and the fact that they can go with mommy to the “Big Store” (our nickname for Macy’s Harold Square store).

The Princess Fairy’s been asking about camping so this should be a fun indoor experience for her since I’m not convinced that camping with two children under 5 will be fun. Kids can enjoy a camp experience indoors through readings, storytelling, BINGO and snacks – There’ll also be crafts to show off your American spirit, refreshments, giveaways, and more! Make sure to take lots of photos to capture the fun and memories on camera. Evreytime you share those photos on social media with #AmericanSelfie you will be Macy’s will donate $1 for each #AmericanSelfie up to $250k, to support America’s veterans with Got Your 6. You will also be entered into a contest run by Macy’s! A few winners will be selected for a spectacular moment in Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks show on NBC!

We will be attending Camp Macy’s at Macy’s Herald Square (New York, NY) on June 14th at 2pm. You can attend at:

    Macy’s Modesto Vintage Fair (Modesto, CA) – 6/14, 2pm

    Macy’s Baybrook (Friendswood, TX) – 6/14, 2pm

Find the full list of Camp Macy’s locations and dates here.

I will be sharing all of the fun on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. So make sure you’re following me!

  • Easy Kids Natural Hairstyle With Dove Quench Absolute

kids-natural-hair-style-tutorial At 20 weeks pregnant with my first child, found out that I was pregnant with a girl and not a boy as I had convinced myself and my husband. The ultrasound technician asked me to take a guess when he showed us the baby’s genitals and I blurted out “A boy?” No, he laughed “It’s a girl!” In that moment, I laughed, cried and couldn’t help thinking about my little girl. As her mommy, I was going to be her biggest role model. Was I ready for that? At the time, I was 6 months into transitioning to wearing my hair in it’s naturally curly texture. I knew that the transition would take much longer than the four more months of my pregnancy so a few days later I walked into my bathroom and cut all my hair off. I wanted my baby girl to see herself in mommy. I wanted her to see a mommy who was comfortable in her skin and her hair and all the things that made mommy unique. I also had no idea how to style natural hair and I figured that it would help to be able to care for and style for my daughter’s hair. It did! Now, my daughter is 4 years old and she loves her curls. She loves that mommy and her grandmothers have curls. She proudly walks around with her little crown of curly glory.   natural-hair-style-for-kids   Like any girl, The Princess Fairy sometimes get bored with her hair. Now that the weather is changing and she’s wearing her sundresses she requested a new hairstyle. She loves to wear her braid-outs but it gets too hot to have hair on your shoulders in the summer. Since, she LOVES flowers and draw them all day long so we decided to do a style that incorporated flowers using Dove Quench Absolute for curly, course hair products.   To achieve this easy kids natural hair style:   dove-quench-absolute-review

        1. I washed and conditioned my daughter’s hair using Dove Quench Absolute shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner made her hair very shiny and manageable and I was happy that the shampoo didn’t strip her hair of its natural oils and make it dry. The formulas which are infused with protein, nutrients and Buriti Oil gave her hair a nourished finish.

      • Next I used the rich and creamy Quench Absolute Restoration Mask since my little lady’s hair thrives on moisture. We left it in for a for just minutes while she raced her brother around our home.

      • After rinsing out Quench Absolute Restoration Mask, I added the Quench Absolute Crème Serum and used an old t-shirt to dry her hair. I use t-shirts instead of towels since her hair tends to get tangled and frizzy when I use towels.

      • Once her hair was dry, I added a little more Dove Quench Absolute Crème Serum. This is a fast absorbing, light weight and creamy serum.

      • Next, I parted out a small section on the crown of her head. Separating her hair into two sections, a small one in the front and a bigger one in the back.

styling-kids-natural-hair 6. I pulled the bigger section in the back into a pony tail, leaving the front section out. natural-hair-style-kids 7. I braided her ponytail and then pinned it up to make a braided knot. natural-kids-summer-hairstyle 8. I used the Quench Absolute Crème Serum to slick the sides down and added a little to the section left out in the front. 9. Next we added her flowers to her little braided knot in the back. 10. Voila! dove-quench-absolut-style   hairstyle-for-kids-with-natural-hair Besides, the new Quench Absolute hair products for curly hair, Dove has an amazing campaign Love Your Curls for moms like myself who want to encourage our daughters to love their hair. According to their studies, girls are more likely to feel beautiful and proud of their hair if people around them do. Sadly, only 4 in 10 little girls with curly hair think that their natural hair is beautiful. It breaks my heart to know that so many little girls dislike their hair. I watched the campaign’s very inspiring video with my little girl and she loved the song, we got up and danced together because we love our curls. If you haven’t seen the video before, it’s a must see. Check it out here. My favorite part of this campaign is the Love Your Curls book. Dove-love-your-curls-book The Love Your Curls book is a poetic tribute to curly hair inspired by thousands of stories from women with curly hair. It’s written by best-selling author, Taiye Selasi and illustrated by Annick Poirier. It is intended to represent and inspire curly girls of all ages. We had a really good time reading this book and loved the images of girls with different types of curls illustrated in the book. I also downloaded a free custom e-book for The Princess Fairy with a special dedication and her photo. custom-dove-love-your-curls-book   You can download your very own here to inspire the curly girls in your life. dove-love-your-hair I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.   Follow Rattles and Heels’s board Natural Hair: Kids on Pinterest.

  • Friendship and Bravo’s Odd Mom Out

Thursday night,  I had a total giggle fest with my girls. See, it’s been a pretty long time since I got together with my two friends from college to just giggle the night away. There is nothing like your girls to have your back and really get your #TheStruggle jokes. I invited them over for girls night-in to check out a special screening of Bravo’s new scripted show, Odd Mom Out. I figured it would be fun since we are all moms and could do with a good laugh and a good Mojito or rather “Mom-Ito”.

Odd Mom Out is based on Manhattan’s Upper East side and gives us a hilarious glimpse into the lives of  some super wealthy and competitive moms. The show stars Jill, who I think most moms can relate to. Jill doesn’t quite fit in with the other moms (haven’t we all been there). She’s more of a dance in your underwear type of mom which doesn’t mesh well with the culture of her neighborhood. Jill’s in-laws are the complete opposite of her and they put pressure on her to embrace their excessive lifestyle.

The show is hilarious to say the least. One of my favorite scenes that had me laughing so hard that I couldn’t stop was when Jill was at the spa and it was such a long time that she was screaming that would take the masseuse home with her. I think most of us feel that way when we are FINALLY treated to spa day.

My friends fell in love with Jill’s BFF Vanessa who has a smart mouth and always seems to say what the rest of us viewers are really thinking. She’s the voice of the regular American woman on the show and the girl we want to hang out with for giggles.

Watching this show was a great conversation opener and we ended up chattting about times that we were in Jill’s shoes as the Odd Mom out. Similar to Jill, I had a hard time finding the right school for my daughter. One school in particular, the other moms stared at my hair and my causal style as the prinicipal talked about the school on the open night. I knew most of them were judging me and that wasn’t the type of environment that I would want my child in. My daughter’s hair is just as big as my hair and I always encourage her to embrace who she is. Clearly, a judgmental circle like that wouldn’t be best for her to strive so I moved on to other schools on the list.

If you haven’t gotten together with your friends in a long time, do just that for the premiere of Odd Mom Out and serve mojitos using this amazing Mom-Ito which I served last night. Yay me!
