    how to make a garland

You know how adult life goes, you hardly get to see your friends because you’re so smitten with your husband, kids and work. At least, this is my experience thus far. I rarely get the opportunity to spend time with my girls. Rarely! As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I’m trying to make an effort to improve that because it’s those moments that really light up my life and make me more fulfilled in other areas. I feel so much  happier in those moments. Happiness is important to me, I try my best to make the choice to be happy and always spread joy and positivity. So for the summer, I made a “Happy” garland with bright colors and happy quotes for the times that I’m hosting my girls to make sure that I have happy guests. So far, I’ve used my Happy Tassel Garland once and it was such a happy time that I think that it’s a tad bit magical so I wanted to share the happy magic with you gals.

    I used:

    how to make garland

    1. Tissue paper (I used gold, pink, stripes and polka dots)
    2. Scissors
    3. Glue gun
    4. Gold pen
    5. Twine

    Instructions:

    1. Cut tissue in 1/2 inch strips. Leave about 1 inch free at the fold.how to make tassel garland
    2. Using a gold pen, I wrote happy quotes on the strips. For your convenience, I made a printable with all the happy quotes that you can download it here🙂happy quotes
    3. Spread the tissue open.
    4. You should approximately 2 inch area in the middle that you did not cut. Bend this area as shown in the photo as gently possible since tissue rips and crumbles easily.tassel garland
    5. Once the middle is completely folded, twist it tightly and a make a loop.
    6. Use a glue to hold loop in place.
    7. Allow glue to dry for 30 minutes.
    8. Repeat for all.
    9. String twine through the loop of the tassels, spacing them out evenly as desired.
    10. Hang up and enjoy the happy vibes.

I plan on using this Happy Tassel Garland over and over, all summer long. I thought it would be fun and to use it for hosting a happy hour with my friends at the park. Yep, I’m a little extra (Happy).

While we didn’t have alcohol, we were intoxicated with a whole lot of girly laughter. As moms, we only get to spend short time together so it was really special to have so many happy moments.

Father's Day Gift IdeaMessage in a-3

Last week, I posted my Father’s Day gift guide and guess what I accomplished this week? I got Mr. Rattles one of his gifts for Father’s Day. It all started when I attended the Camp Macy’s event on Sunday. I spent almost one hour on the counters at Macy’s smelling a whole bunch of different colognes. I wanted to find a scent that really fit Mr. Rattles personality and taste.  After trying Nautica Life and really loving it, I went back on Monday with The Princess Fairy and after a few sniffs she agreed that “Daddy is going to love it!” I was happy that I was able to get him the gift set for $65 down from the regular price of $128 and included  3.4 oz Eau de Toilette, 2.5 oz Aftershave Balm, 2.5 oz Shower Gel, and 1 oz Eau de Toilette.

My kids are terrible at keeping secrets, they reveal hiding spots within seconds or promise there is no secret indicating there is a secret. Since, I knew there would be no way The Princess Fairy would not let him know about the gift before Father’s Day, I decided to make it part of our family beach day fun and gift it to him early. She had already started dropping hints so I had no choice.

Since  we were giving him his gift early, I wanted it to be a fun experience. To make it memorable, I included her in setting things up. Thankfully, I have a huge beach bag that I was able to stash everything in. Once we got to the beach he took The Super Knight for a walk down the shore and that’s when The Princess Fairy and I got to work. We buried his gifts and then texted him a few clues.

Before he came back we added a special touch – a message in a bottle. With the naval inspiration for the Nautical Life, I thought that a message in a bottle would be a thoughtful way to communicate how happy we are to have him sailing through LIFE with us.
    message in a bottle
Messages in bottles are one of the oldest forms of communication and one that kept memories alive for generations and cross oceans. I knew he would appreciate a message in a bottle in lieu of a card plus it will be fun to display next to his colognes.

  • Upcycle Project: Cute DIY Book Clutch

    Make-diy-clutch-in-3-easy-steps

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of upcycling clothes and things I no longer wear or use. I mean, I’ve even found a use for old food cans. Yesterday, I decided to upcycle an old leopard top into a fun DIY book clutch. I’ve seen a few fashionistas with these adorable book clutches and I thought they were so edgy and a leopard one would be perfect to upcyle an old top that I no longer wear. Since, it’s summer and I plan to rock my book clutch regularly, I washed my leopard top with the new method laundry detergent.

As a mom, I enjoyed using method laundry detergent not only to wash my leopard top but also my kids clothing because it’s super tough on stains and made from all natural ingredients. I also like the fact that method detergent works well in cold water so I can conserve energy when doing laundry. Just like me, method loves to recycle. So much so, the bottle is designed without handles to be fully recyclable. Super cool. Once my leopard top was clean and ironed, I was ready to make my something old into something new.

    Here’s what I used:

    diy-clutch-bag

Book shaped gift book with magnetic closure. (You can find these at hobby/craft stores).

Old shirt or dress in a fun print.

    Fabric glue.

    Precision Knife.

    Scissors.

    Instructions:

    1. Remove the book cover using a precision knife. This is important to ensure that the fabric can be secured snugly.

    2. Using the Fabric glue attach the fabric to the cover of the book. Make sure that the fabric isn’t too thick as this will prevent the magnetic closure from working. Secure the ends. Allow to dry for 30 – 60 mins as per the directions on your glue.

    how-to-make-clutch

    3. Once dried, bond the box to the cover of the book.
Allow to dry 30-60 mins. *Tip* place another book on top of your book clutch while it dries. The pressure will help the fabric to stay in place smoothly.

    Yay, you’re done!

Once your book clutch is completely dry, you can start using it.
