  • Summer 2014 Style Recap

Mama’s sharing her summer 2014 style recap today.

    Summer 2014 Style Recap

It’s  #FlashBackFriday here on Rattles and Heels because the weather is cooling down and I have fall fashion on my mind all the time now. Although I am not a huge cold weather fan, I am looking forward to wearing leather and living in my boots again. I plan to wear my hair straight this fall and maybe play with the color a bit. I’ll be sharing my favorite fall trends in a separate post soon but I’ll tell you now that I’m set on wearing  midi skirts, lots of textures, wide brim hats, ankle boots, wide leg jeans and of course motorcycle jackets. But before I get too carried away, here’s a look back at my summer 2014 style:

I started documenting my style here on Rattles and Heels during the spring and this is the first full season I posted. I am glad that I did so because it’s pretty interesting to look back at my fashion choices. I must share that I didn’t do much shopping this year. I tried my best to make good shopping choices over the years and purchase pieces that I truly love and that are timeless. As a result, I didn’t have to worry that my clothes were no longer trendy or fashionable. I’ve also taken really good care of my clothes and ensured that I clean and store them as per manufacturers instructions.

What are you looking forward to wearing in this fall?

Did you do a lot of shopping this summer?

  • Fashion Friday: Black and White on White

    Rattles and Heels

Yes darlings, it’s TGIFashionFriday! I’m totally pumped up this week,  I think it’s this hot pink mani/pedi that breathed life into my usual boring nails situation. Now that I went all out with the nail polish, I’ve been overthinking my outfits and living in fear of clashing colors.  I had one of those stare down sessions with my wardrobe, you know the one where you look at all the clothes that you own and then declare you have nothing to wear. Just before I got to that point, my eyes landed on this black and white print shirt and I decided that was the shirt that would complement my pink nails really well. I decided to pair it with these white shorts for no other reason than it’s summer. I’ve never worn black and white on white before but I love the combination.

So much, I think I’ll do some more experimenting.

If you want to recreate this look but you’ll be running around with your kids, you can swap the ankle strap heels for sandals or a cute pair of loafers.

This is one of the few print shirts that I own, I tend to shy away since I have a bit of a chest so that’s why I ensured that my proportions were well balanced in this outfit. Just because you have a chest doesn’t mean that you can’t wear prints. I think it’s important to study your body type and determine ways in which you can create a proportioned silhouette.

Don’t punish yourself, Make it work for you!

Tucking in the shirt, minimizes the amount of print so it’s not overbearing, polishes the look and pulls it together creating the balance that I need to look like a woman.

Personally, I think that a pair of white shorts is a summer essential, it can be worn over and over with basically any shirt. My only advice would be to get a length you’re comfortable wearing.

    Shorts: Express

What are your tips for creating a proportionate look?

  • Fashion Fridays: Hearts and Glitter Flats

kids spring fashion 2014I decided to start Fashion  Fridays here on the blog, fashion for mom and kids.  Today, I’m going to feature none other than my daughter  who calls herself “The Princess Fairy”.  She loves to dress up and that means she’s fascinated by all things sparkly, pink, frilly or that can be described as “pretty”. Although, I’ve shared these pictures last week on the blog in my Follow Your Little Leader post. I wanted to share the details of her outfit for moms looking to recreate the look.

This is a casual spring weekend look.

Hair makes and breaks an outfit, even a preschooler’s outfit, so we started with her signature braid-out accessorized with these roses hair clips from H&M.

If you have a daughter, you know there is always a little story behind everything they own. My daughter fell in love with a pair of Jimmy Choo sparkly shoes at Nordstorm a few weeks ago. Yes, Jimmy Choo! It’s clearly accidental *covers face* but we walked by the shoe section and she was drawn to the Cinderella awesomeness. That’s when she decided that she wanted one and while I also wanted to collapse on the floor and throw a tantrum for a pair (Aren’t they drool-worthy?) I reminded her that she couldn’t wear heels and that the way her shoe budget is set up – you guys can figure out the rest!

Imagine what I’ll have to get her for prom.

Anyway, she settled for this pair at J. Crew and they are definitely the preschool equivalent of the Jimmy Choo’s.

    Enjoy your weekend!
