Our latest Mom in Heels is MJ of the Fab Haute Mama! I first met MJ a few years ago and she’s easily become one of my favorite moms in the blogosphere and a good friend. MJ is a busy mom with a passion for cooking and reading to her little ones. I love following MJ’s journey because she’s always really candid and open about motherhood challenges that are familiar to all of us, from breastfeeding to her adorable son outgrowing his crib and making an escape.
How many kids do you have and how old?
Two kids. Zoe 4 years old and Baby E, 21 months.
What’s the biggest parenting challenge you’ve overcome?
Thinking I’m not good enough.
How do you balance your career and motherhood?
I won’t say that I have found a complete balance but working out a schedule with my hubs has been great for my productivity and output as a mompreneur.
How would you describe your personal style?
Conservative. I almost always rock denim, black, white, grey, statement tees or tank tops. Converse and flats are my staples.
Did your personal style change since you became a mother?
Yes. I became more casual. I probably wear heels 4-5x a year and that is probably a stretch. I’m currently working on adding a little more flair and color to my everyday style.
What would be your advice to moms who are struggling to establish their style and make time to care for themselves?
Really I need to take my own advice but the things I definitely do are:
Take at least 1 uninterrupted shower daily, spend 5 minutes meditating. Make time for exercise even if you start with just 5 minutes and accept help when offered. As for style, be you! If you love something, make it your signature. If you are not feeling stylish, treat yourself to a few pieces. For me, a statement tee or accessories make all the difference. No matter what, rock earrings (I go for hoops), lipstick, (or gloss) and mascara!

It is okay to feel any and all emotions you feel. It is okay to be tired and take the time to recoup. It is okay to say no or to say yes and definitely work on getting your kids on a schedule as soon as you can. No pressure but having a schedule eventually leads to much-needed mama timeouts throughout the day. Last thing: Mamas, YOU ARE AWESOME!
How can we keep up with you?
My blog, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!
Tell us about your blog/business and your motivation for starting.
My blog Fab Haute Mama is all about my life as a mom. I share tips, funnies, food and things we love. I love celebrating everyday moms and keeping it real. I started my blog as a much-needed outlet when I felt like I was drowning in motherhood. I also have an apparel and accessory line for kids and their adults too called Chatterbox Baby. There is nothing like a cute statement tee. Check us out.
