A Unicorn Birthday Celebration For My Daughter

My daughter turned 8 yesterday and I’m just amazed by how incredible she is and I’m going to be annoying and brag about her for just a little bit because I’m really proud. She’s very confident and kind — very kind. The confidence matters because she’s tall for her age and I’m really inspired by how she carries herself and how well she’s embraced her height. She’s very active and hates being inside, and she’s intrigued by the mystical creatures’ unicorns, actually she’s obsessed. This obsession began a few years ago, it’s not because unicorns are pretty and magical, but she loves that they have the power to heal and help others. Although, she knows they are not real I think that she feels connected to the kindness they represent. Her kindness is what makes her stand out and I tell her all the time that just by being herself when she’s with her friends, classmates, and family she’s like a unicorn but this year for her birthday, I decided to empower her by celebrating with a unicorn birthday celebration.

I got her the perfect costume from Matilda Jane Clothing Choose Your Own Path Halloween collection. The collection was designed to empower girls to choose their own part and be whoever they want to be and not confine them in boxes. The line has two costumes, a unicorn and a superhero costume, they are both very beautiful and fun. I plan to get her the superhero costume as well. Her costume is called Magical You Costume and it includes a gorgeous unicorn horn headband, wings, and a tail. It was the perfect look for my unicorn.

We completed her unicorn birthday celebration with a class party with a gorgeous unicorn cake inspired by her headband that she enjoyed sharing with her classmates. She was happy, and I know she will be wearing her unicorn costume over and over for the Halloween season.

Do You Like Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast?

Who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss books? I’ve read the Green Eggs and Ham book to my children so many times that I’ve now memorized it, and I think they did too. So of course, we were excited to sign up for the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast while on our vacation on the Carnival Horizon (read more about it here). The breakfast came recommended by friends who also have small children and recently went on a Carnival Cruise too. It was so much fun for the kids that I have to share our experience.

What is it?

The Green Eggs and Ham breakfast is a special fun breakfast for children aboard most Carnival ships, we did it on the Carnival Horizon. The breakfast is not included in your cruise package, so you will pay for it in addition but it’s very affordable. We received a phone call a few hours after we boarded to set up our reservations, we chose our last day at sea since we didn’t have much planned and wanted something exciting to start our last day.

Our experience

We had 10 am reservations and they let us into the restaurant at exactly that time. There were props outside where a few guests took photos of their families before entering. I noticed lots of families dressed up in their Cat in the Hat themed outfits for the breakfast which was really cool especially the extended families traveling together.

My first thought when we sat down at our table was that so much thought was put into the details of this breakfast. The menus were modeled after the Green Eggs and Ham and my kids got really excited as they decided on what to order.

The staff were all really kind to all of the families! I noticed them going around and checking on everyone and our waiter even learned my kids names. Once we had our food the characters started coming into the dining room, not just some of the characters but ALL of the Dr. Seuss characters. I loved watching the wonder on not just my kids faces but all the little ones faces as the characters went to each table to give hugs, high fives and take photos.

The best part, we got dessert at breakfast! This was a really fun breakfast and I would recommend it if you’re planning to take a Carnival Cruise with kids.

Finding a Family Dentist with HealthPlan USA

Back in January, about a week before my kids’ biannual dental appointment, I got a phone call from tour family dentist with some bad news. There were some administrative changes and they wouldn’t be taking our dental insurance any longer. I was bummed because my kids were really comfortable there and they made the experience really fun for them. Initially I scrambled to try to find a new dentist, I got suggestions from other moms but most of them didn’t take our insurance either. Somewhere along the line, I got exhausted gave up and even forgot. Over the summer, it hit me that the kids were coming up on a year of not seeing a dentist and I knew I had to make it happen.

Finding a Family Dentist with HealthPlan USA

This was just around the time that I signed up for HealthPlan USA, I’m not sure if it was my determination or having HealthPlan USA but I found a dentist only 5 minutes away from my home that took our insurance. I knew that if they didn’t take my insurance plan, paying out of pocket would be less as I could take advantage of HealthPlan USA dental discounts.
