  • How To Look Slimmer Using Color Block

Most of us women gain a significant amount of weight during pregnancy and/or motherhood. For instance, I gained 60 pounds last year while I was pregnant with my second child. I am a huge advocate of loving and accepting your body the way it is and working with what you’ve got. I think it’s important to understand that there are plenty of ways that you can dress to look slimmer. I’ve noticed a lot of mothers wearing loose clothing and trying to hide under tents but that’s not necessary. You don’t have wear a trench coat all the time because you gained some weight, you can dress your body to appear slimmer. One way to do this effectively is to use color block to look slimmer. Here are simple tips that celebrity stylists use all of the time and you can too.

    Look Slimmer Overall
A color block dress like this one can make you appear up to 10 pounds or one size smaller. The dark side panels create the illusion of a slimmer body.

Make Your Lower Body Appear Slimmer

To make your lower body appear slimmer color block using a darker color in the bottom. You can get a dress like this or wear a darker bottom like a pencil skirt or slim cut pants.

Accentuate your waist and make it appear slimmer with dark midsection

Your waist will instantly appear slimmer with darker blocks around your waistline. These dresses will help you appear to have a small waistline and make you appear to have a feminine shape.
    Appear Slimmer and Curvier

The right color block dress can help you to appear more curvier and help you to create the illusion of a more balanced body. For this effect, go for dresses with circular shaped blocks especially along the sides.

Have you ever tried dressing slimmer using color block?

  • Fashion Friday: Cobalt Blue And Sequins

Sequins top and cobalt blue shorts Rattles and Heels

I have a confession, I cannot walk pass or even scroll pass cobalt blue and sequins. I love them both, maybe unequally because I like sequins a little bit more. They’re both attention grabbing but surprisingly when worn together they don’t do too much. They manage to balance each other out really well.

I’ve had this top for about three years now, I purchased it from Express and I’ve only worn it once or twice. It’s one of those pieces that I’m glad to have as part of my collection because it’s timeless, beautiful and well made. I don’t think I’ll ever get too old to wear this top. I’ll probably have it when I have grand kids and they’ll probably snicker at their grandma in sequins and red lips.

These shorts are also from Express, they are very comfortable and I love the length. To me, one of the biggest annoyances is a pair of shorts that fits poorly. I can’t wear shorts that are tight, too short or low rise, so whenever I find brands that makes shorts that fits my body well I tend to stick with them. Currently, my favorite places to purchase shorts are Express, Club Monaco, The Gap and Banana Republic. If you have a familiar build to me, I’ll recommend those stores.

  • Blogging While Brown Conference 2014 Style Diary

This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the Blogging While Brown Conference here in New York City. Rattles and Heels was born nine months ago and this was my first  blogging conference. It was also my first opportunity to meet a few of the bloggers I’ve met online in person. I was literally shaking with excitement when I got my tickets a few weeks back and just couldn’t wait to learn more about blogging and meet other people who share my passion. To say that I had a wonderful experience and was welcomed warmly into the blogging world is an understatement. Everyone was nice and it was invigorating to be in an environment with so many creative and intelligent individuals.

There are tons of topics that are important to our Rattles and Heels community that I am not an expert in, so I am overjoyed to let you know that I met bloggers who I can collaborate with to bring those conversations alive.

I wanted to apologize for missing Fashion Friday so I am making up by sharing my conference style. If you’re part of the Rattles and Heels crew, you already know that my mommy style revolves around skirts so it was only natural for me to rock this pretty floral full skirt to the conference.

When I saw this skirt I immediately thought that it would good addition to my wardrobe because it is such a versatile and timeless piece. It’s a statement piece and good conversation opener which to me was perfect for an event where I didn’t know anyone. Also, it’s a good purchase for moms because it’s not too short so you can bend over and pick up your baby.
